How to Use a Step Pedometer

An easy and popular way to lose weight and become healthier is to walk more and you can monitor how much you are walking with a simple pedometer. One goal that is recommended is to walk 10,000 steps every day. This may be too much to start so one way is to monitor how many steps you are taking in a normal day then try to increase this gradually until you achieve this target.

Once you have set your target monitor the number of steps throughout the day. Check around noon to see how many steps you have taken and increase the amount during the afternoon if you haven’t done enough. Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking the car further away from where you are going. Although 10,000 is a good target you may not achieve that straight away. It may take you a few weeks or even months to do it but increasing the number of steps slowly day by day will have a definite benefit on your health.

Use the pedometer by attaching it to your clothes or wrist first thing in the morning and only remove it when you go to bed at night. You should also keep a record of your achievements each day. Some of the more expensive and sophisticated pedometers allow you to automatically upload data to your computer to keep records. If you don’t want to buy an expensive pedometer it’s easy to keep a record in a journal or a spreadsheet. It will help to motivate you as you see your progress day by day!

Keep up the journal, increase the number of steps to 10,000 a day and you will soon see benefits in your health, fitness level and weight.
